Edward Lugo

Retired from the U.S. Marine Corps
Edward Lugo, 88, of Toccoa, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at the home of his daughter.
Born Jan. 10, 1920, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Jaime and Eugenia Morales Velez. He was married twice, first to the late Eugenia Davenport Lugo and then to Loma Wisser Lugo.
He retired in 1962 from the United States Marine Corps with 22 years of service. He served during World War II and the Korean War. He was employed as a food service director in Florida for a number of years. He was a member of the First Alliance Church, Franklin, N.C.
Survivors include two sons, James Otis Lugo of Royston and Raymond Lugo of Hampton, Tenn.; a daughter, Edie Lugo Tubbs of Toccoa; a sister, Ada Johnson of Monroe; a brother, Gilbert Lugo of Spring Hill, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Demenzes.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 13, at the First Alliance Church in Franklin, N.C.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville, Fla., with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps.
Pallbearers were Mark Lugo, Bryan Lugo, Andy Tubbs, Tim Tubbs, Gene Leigh, David Leigh and Chad Henderson.

Whitlock Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
