Lillian Nell Bowers Payne

Lillian “Nanna” Nell Bowers Payne, 106, of Greenville, died October 30, 2015. She was born in Royston, Ga. and was the daughter of the late Asa and Rosa Bowers, and was the loving wife of the late Fred Payne for fifty years. Lillian was a retired kindergarten teacher, taught piano and loved to crochet. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and active in the WMU and also a member of the Berea First Baptist Church Friendship Group. She is survived by a son, Thomas Erwin Payne; two grandchildren, Rusty Payne (Debbie) and Donna Tinga; four great grandchildren, Ashley Hunter (Cory), Alex Payne, Elizabeth Tinga and Emily Harris (Tyler); and a great great grandchild (Baby Harris), due in March. In addition to her husband and parents, Lillian was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Cochran and Mary Galland; and four brothers, Erwin, Luther, Gordan and Jack Bowers. A visitation was held Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. A graveside service was held Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, Lottie Moon Fund, 403 Sulphur Springs Road, Greenville, S.C 29617 or Berea First Baptist Church, Legacy Fund, 529 Farrs Bridge Road, Greenville, S.C 29611. The family is at the home of Mr. Thomas Payne. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting
