After missing 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Currahee Military Weekend returns in 2021.
Events will be held Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 30 -Oct. 3.
The weekend is sponsored by the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce and the Stephens County Historical Society with the cooperation of the City of Toccoa.
The weekend will include a vetaran’s parade a World War II re-enactmen, book signings, a chicken barbecue lunch, a concert and living historian encampments in downtown.
Currahee Military Weekend started in 2000 as a military reunion for the men who trained at Camp Toccoa during World War II.
“Now our veterans, their families, and our community experience how important our local military history was during World War II and to the men that trained here. There will be several living historians and encampments in the downtown area and the museum, as well as re-enactments for everyone to enjoy,” Linda Carlan of the Stephens County Historical Society Museum said.
Camp Toccoa trained some 18,000 soldiers as paratroopers during World War II.
Currahee Military Weekend 2021 activities are: Thursday, Sept. 30
• 7 p.m. – “Showtime at the Ritz” with Linda Davis is back again with An Evening in the Round – tickets available at the Toccoa Main Street Office.
Friday, Oct. 1
• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Canteen Chamber Chicken-Q at Toccoa First United Methodist Church – McNeely Hall: Reserve your chicken plates today online at VisitToccoa.com or by calling the the Chamber at 706-886-2132.
Local companies are encouraged to pre-order plates to be delivered to their workplace for their employees.

• Camp Toccoa @ Currahee open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• World War II book signing at the historic train depot: 1-5 p.m.
Meet the authors of several military books about the paratroopers of World War II.
Saturday, Oct. 2
• 7 a.m. – Currahee Challenge: Experience the 5k and 10k run/walk up Currahee Mountain trail, that served as part of the rigorous basic training where the men of the 101st Airborne who parachuted into Normandy hours before the D-Day invasion.
• Camp Toccoa @ Currahee open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., downtown – travel to the 1940’s and experience Toccoa during World War II, including a memorabilia show.
• Veterans Parade at 1 p.m. downtown followed by a World War II re-enactment
• Currahee Banquet – Mitchell Allen Room at the Currahee Military Museum, tickets available at The Historical Society
Sunday, Oct. 3
• 8:30 a.m. – Remembrance Service - Parachute Infantry Regimental Memorial – Currahee Mountain.
• Camp Toccoa @ Currahee open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
