The wait will be over Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
    No more pre-season practices.
No more practice games that don’t count in the standings.
The Stephens County Indians will play Franklin County here Friday in the 2019 football season opener for both teams.
The Indians finished 5-6 last season including a victory over Franklin in Carnesville.
The Lions were 3-7 a year ago, but gave the Indians all they could handle before  falling 13-3.
The Indians return several starters on the offensive side of the ball including quarterback Kenny Colwell, running backs Hudson Spurlock and M.J. Jones and wide receiver Gamarion Carter.
The Lions will counter with shifty  Titlan Wells, a  senior running back for the Class AAA program. He  had 888 yards rushing last season and scored 11 touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Everett Haselden will also return.
He recorded 352 yards passing last season.
Heat could be a factor in the game, SCHS coach Wesley Tankersley said, and the Indians will take certain precautions.
The Indians will enter the game with no significant injuries to any players.
Tickets for the game are $8 at the gate.
