Story of Bobby Byrd, James Brown makes stop in Toccoa

BY MARIE T. COCHRAN SPECIAL TO THE TOCCOA RECORD          On July 20, 1974, the City of Toccoa hosted a significant event to celebrate its 100th anniversary. “Bobby Byrd Day” was proclaimed by then Mayor Roy Gaines and Bobby Howard Byrd received the key to the City.

Mr. Robert Charles Richards, age 78 of 1040 Old Carnes Creek Road, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. A son of the late R. Toombs and Sarah Rudeseal Richards, he was born May 7, 1937 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived all his life.
