A history-making postseason run in the state tennis playoffs ended in the Elite Eight quarterfinal round for both Stephens County teams last week.
The eliminations came courtesy of perennial tennis powerhouse The Westminster School.
The Indian boys were eliminated 3-0 by 20-time state champion Westminster while the Lady Indians were ousted by 19-time state champion Westminster .
The matches were played on the Westminster campus in Atlanta.
The Indian boys finished the season 13-8 while the Lady Indians finished the season 16-5.
It was the first time in school history that both Stephens tennis teams advanced to the Elite Eight in the same season.
It’s also the first time an Indian boys tennis squad won a pair of state playoff matches.
“I’m extremely happy for this group and what they have achieved this season,” SCHS coach Thomas Flowers said.
“This team has achieved something no team before them has achieved, I am so proud and happy for them,” he said.
