Stephens County’s Samara Walker is a back-to-back region champion in the shot put.
Walker picked up her second region crown Monday when she threw a personal best of 39 feet, five inches for the Region 8-AAA title in Monroe.
The senior Lady Indian claimed her first region title in shot put her sophomore year in 2019.Due to the pandemic, the 2020 region track meet was canceled.
“The feeling is incredible,” Walker said. “I am very grateful to have had this opportunity to compete against these great athletes.”
Walker is also grateful to compete once again. She said it was difficult dealing with the pandemic.
“By the grace of God I’ve made it through a hard year,” Walker said. “After this difficult year, it was a blessing to finally have a silver lining. I have worked toward a new PR (personal record) for so long and I’m encouraged that the hard work is paying off,” Walker said. “However I still have more goals I want to achieve this season. I would also like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and community for supporting me.”
Walker now advances to the state track and field competition.
