The Currahee Artists’ Guild is seeking artists for its annual Spring Judged Show to be held on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Studio in downtown Toccoa.
This event is held in conjunction with the Toast of Toccoa, which brings lots of viewers to the downtown area.
The judged competition is open to artists’ original works of art created within the past three years.
Art may be submitted in a variety of categories including oil and acrylic, drawing, mixed media, photography, digital art photography, watercolor, pastel, pottery and fine craft: (which will include baskets, jewelry, glass, wood, metal, fiber and other fine original crafts).
The entry fee per category is $20 for Currahee Artists’ Guild members and $35 for non-members.
A 3-feet by 6-feet panel or table will be supplied by the guild.
Annual membership for the Currahee Artists’ Guild is $25 and this show is one of three sponsored by the guild each year.
The Cleo Alexander Floral Competition sponsored by Alexander’s Florist for this spring show is the artist’s choice of flower or flowers in any setting.
This floral competition, which can be rendered in any artistic medium, is open to any guild or community member and there is no fee for this entry.
Judge for this event is Victoria Cooke, a pro-fessional curator and the director of art galleries at the University of North Georgia where she also teaches contemporary art and exhibition practices.
Cooke received bachelor degrees in behavioral psychology, French literature and interior design with a minor in art history from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss.
She went on to receive a masters degree in art history at Tulane University in New Orleans, La.
She completed all requirements, save the dissertation, in the PhD program at the University of Delaware before taking the position of curator of painting at New Orleans Museum of Art.
She has also served in curatorial positions at the Louisiana State University Museum of Art in Baton Rouge, La., and Columbia Museum of Art in Columbia, S.C.
Her research expertise is wide ranging.
She has curated major exhibitions on early 19th century American and European art and culture, Impressionism, American Modernism and contemporary African-American Art.
She has focused more recently on contemporary art and craft in the Southeastern United States.
Cash awards and ribbons will be given.
