Linda Sheriff Rumsey of Greer, S.C., formerly of Stephens County, will serve as Lions Club vice district governor of South Carolina District 32S.
Rumsey is the outgoing president of the Greer (S.C.) Lions Club. She has served in that position since 2019.
Her term as district vice governor started on July 1.
“I am happy to serve in 2021-2022 with District Gov. Jim Barbare of the Blue Ridge Club and first vice district governor Randy Culbertson from the Greenwood Club.
Rumsey will eventually serve as district governor.
An active member of the Greer Lions Club since 2006, Ramsey became aware of the Lions Club after sitting on the board of South Carolina Organ Procurement.
That organization and the Lions Eye bank merged to create Life Point for the gift of organs, tissues and eyes.
Rumsey became an active member of the Greer Lions Club in 2006. She has served the club as secretary, and has been on the board of directors since 2011.
She noted that Lions International supports five main causes – vision, hunger, diabetes, childhood cancer and the environment.
“During the last 16 months, Lions Club International Foundation has been able to make grants for COVID relief in the amount of $5.3 million,” Ramsey said. “Lions are the first feet on the ground after a disaster and if there is a need you will find a Lion.”
Rumsey is the daughter of the late Johnny and Betty Sheriff. She attended Eastanollee Elementary School and graduated from Stephens County High School in 1969.
She moved to South Carolina in 1975 and married her husband, Tom Rumsey 40 years ago.
Rumsey said she embraces her new duties as vice district governor.
“It’s exciting. I look forward to helping the clubs to meet in person,” she said. “Since the pandemic, 70 clubs met by Zoom. Very few of them met in person. My biggest thing is to help everybody meet in person.”
