Financial matters topped the to-do ist of the Stephens County Board of Education Tuesdaynight with the board addressing items such as new school buses, pressure washing, and the school system’s 2023-2024 budget.
The board approved the purchase of seven new 72-passenger school buses for the year.
Though the new buses cost $896,000 in total ($128,000 each), school assistant superintendent John Stith said that the state department of education will reimburse the school system $616,770 for the buses.
That, Stith said, makes the cost to the school system $279,230 — $39,890 for each bus.
The board approved the bus purchase unanimously with funds coming from the school’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
