Friendship, unity, and kindness.
Those are the ideals that make up the Toccoa-Stephens County’s 2023 summer reading program “All Together Now.”
Kick-off for children will be on Friday, June 2, at 3 p.m. at the historic Ritz Theater featuring B-RAD, a magician from from Taylors, S.C.
“This will be a great time to celebrate the beginning of summer reading,” said library regional children’s director Shantelle Grant.
The summer reading program isn’t only for children.
Library adult coordinator Carol Glaze said the library also launched its adult summer reading today, June 1.
“Summer reading programs have traditionally been for children, but we want to make sure to include adults as well,” said Glaze.
Activities will run throughout the summer reading for both children and adults which concludes on Friday, July 14.
For children, activities occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and on Mondays a teen event called “Murder We Wrote”, Grant said.
“It will be a time of fun activities to promote language and literacy in our community for all ages,” Grant said.
“We are really looking forward to having our children participate in this year’s program,” she said.
Glaze said that adult activities are scheduled on Wednesdays and Fridays.
“We will have a lot of fun activities this summer including story time for adults, games, and macrame class, Phone Healthy 101, a downtown scavenger hunt, and challenges related to our theme,” Glaze said.
“There will be prizes for each activity as well as a grand prize to be awarded at the end of the six weeks,” Glaze said, adding the library is partnering with the Salvation Army for a sock and food drive.
“I hope (the food and sock drives) will be a way to be kind and show friendship to the people in our community,” Glaze said.
