The Toccoa Symphony Orchestra is back and will perform its annual outdoor Patriotic Pops Concert on Sunday, June 27.
The gate opens at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
The concert, featuring the full-sized orchestra performing uplifting and inspiring patriotic music, will be held for the first time at Lake Toccoa – home of the Links, Ping’s Restaurant and Reflections Event Center. Concert attendees will be treated to a catered barbecue dinner before the concert and fireworks immediately following the concert for a full evening of entertainment.
The event will take place rain or shine.
Concert attendees should bring their own chair or blanket to enjoy the music and many concert attendees show their patriotic spirit by wearing red, white, and blue to the event.
“Lake Toccoa is a perfect setting for this type of concert,” says Jim Wade, president of the Toccoa Symphony Orchestra.
“The view of Lake Toccoa is spectacular and there is plenty of room to spread out on the level lawn all around the orchestra stage. It’s a special treat for both the audience and the musicians,” he adds.
The orchestra, led by Conductor Wm. David Stufft, will play patriotic music selections including parts from the soundtrack of the Band of Brothers - the film inspired by the paratroopers who were trained at the base of Currahee Mountain in Toccoa.
Roy English will provide a reading of the lyrics Ragged Old Flag, a song by Johnny Cash, while the orchestra plays America The Beautiful.
One of the highlights of the concert is the performance of the Armed Forces Salute, honoring the men and women who serve and have served our country.
Active and retired military personnel are invited to stand up and be recognized for their service.
Several other pieces are slated for the program including the 1812 Overture and Stars and Stripes Forever.
Tickets including the barbecue dinner and water are $25 per person for adults and $10 per person for children under the age of 16.
A vegetarian meal option is also available.
