A South Carolina man was arrested last month in Stephens County on charges of intent to distribute heroin and other illegal substances.
Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that on Oct. 22 at around 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office received word of a reckless driver on Big A Road.
Sheriff office K-9 deputy Dexter and handler Michael Vice responded, located a vehicle matching the description and began monitoring it, Shirley said.
“The driver immediately threw something out the window,” Shirley said.
The motorist was pulled over at the intersection of Big A and Collins roads.
Shirley said that Vice sent Dexter to work due to what appeared to be nervousness displayed by the driver.
“(Dexter) gave an alert on the vehicle which indicated the presence of illegal drugs,” Shirley said.
A search of the vehicle afterward turned up heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and a firearm.
Driver of the vehicle, Joshua Sanders, 40, of Seneca, S.C., was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, methamphetamine, and fentanyl as well as possession of the three drugs.
Shirley said that there was “a large amount” of the illegal drugs found in the vehicle.
Sanders also was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission or attempt to commit certain felonies, and one count of littering.
As of Monday, Shirley said that Sanders was being held in Stephens County Jail awaiting a bond hearing in superior court.
