Halloween costumes and masks have certainly changed over the past 50 years, but there’s been one constant in the candy-laden celebration in Toccoa during that span.
Come the middle of October every year and Bob and Anne Arbogast could be counted on to decorate their yard on Andrews Road in a Halloween theme.
“We started off small but have added many displays over the years,” Bob Arbogast said. “The most kids and parents we ever had was about 750 one year several years ago.”
But, as times have changed – most churches now have Halloween events for children, Arbogast notes – the number of visitors to the Arbogast yard have dwindled.
Add in the fact that Bob Arbogast has reached the 80-year-old threshold and he says 2021 will be his last year undertaking the Halloween decorating.
“Hauling everything up from the basement, it takes many trips and setting up everything takes over a week – plus taking it down. This will be our last year,” he said.
However, he’s hoping someone will keep the tradition going.
He said he is selling all of his Halloween displays. they total about $1,500 in value, he said, but he’s asking only $800.
