Reavis named next Chamber president

BY MICHAEL O’HEARNTHE TOCCOA RECORD The Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce has selected its next president.Tessa Reavis, a Toccoa native, will fill the shoes of current Chamber president Julie Paysen.
The Georgia Department of Transportation has made a change to the intersection of Memorial Drive and the Toccoa Bypass. Drivers can only make right turns on to the Bypass or turn left onto Memorial Drive. The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office said the change was made to reduce accidents at that intersection.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office made a sweeping drug bust last week that encompassed six counties.As part of the drug bust, two Toccoa residents were arrested and 20 individuals were apprehended.

Masonic Lodge celebrates 150 years

Toccoa has a local organization that predates even the creation of Stephens County, which was founded in the early 1900s.Soon after the birth of the City of Toccoa in 1874, this organization came along with some of the city’s earliest residents. Stephens County was not established until 1905.

By J. Todd TrueloveThe Toccoa Record   Motorists’ pocketbooks in Toccoa and across the nation are taking a hit as gas prices escalate at what the website GasBuddy.com calls one of the fastest increases in history.
The Toccoa Police Department and Clary and Wilkinson centers in Toccoa partnered together to put on a senior prom on Saturday, Feb. 27, for 60 residents from the care centers. The event was held at the Reflections at Lake Toccoa venue and several members of the community helped with the evening. The police department would like to thank Quality Foods, Chick-Fil-A, Toccoa Wedding Experts, a group of retired teachers, Alexander’s Florist, and April Littleton with Sweet Dreams Photography.

County postpones funding fireworks

BY J. TODD TRUELOVETHE TOCCOA RECORD   The budgeting for this summer’s Independence Day fireworks show was postponed Monday by Stephens County commissioners.     County administrator Christian Hamilton recommended providing the $8,247 to Pyro Shows East Coast for the fireworks.
