North Georgia Technical College (NGTC)  recently announced the top four students nominated to become the college’s 2020 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) recipient.

George Moore a senior at Stephens County High School, was recently named as one of the semifinalists for the 2020 Coca Cola Scholarship.     He is the son of Rod and Betsy Moore of Toccoa.

The Toccoa Salvation Army will kick off two of its most familiar Christmas season drives on Friday, Nov. 29.     Iconic red kettles will be placed at Clayton, Cornelia, Cleveland and Eastanollee Walmarts and several stores on Big A Road in Toccoa to collect donations.

Police investigate November check forgeries

Two suspects are wanted and one man has been arrested in connection with multiple check forgeries in Toccoa.     Police chief Jimmy Mize said the department has been investigating the forgeries since mid-November.

Country music duo Wilson Fairchild will bring their Christmas show to Toccoa for a Night at the Ritz performance on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at the historic Ritz Theatre.     The musical duo, made up of Wil and Langdon Reid, are often referred to as “the Reid boys.”
Built and opened in 1939, the Ritz Theatre has undergone extensive renovations in recent years.

On Friday, Nov. 22, the Friends of the Ritz, Inc will hold its first-ever public fundraiser.       The Friends of the Ritz, Inc., has been formed to help raise funds for additional complimentary programming to what is already offered at the Ritz Theatre.

The Stephens County Sheriff's Office has a new training and shooting facility.     Some 50-60 people attended a ribbon-cutting event for the facility on Friday, Nov. 15. The event was coordinated by the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce.
