Elections office schedules open house

     Want to take a look at how elections are going to run in Stephens County this year?     That opportunity will be available during an open house presented by the Stephens County Elections Office.      The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 5-7 p.m.

BY TOM LAW THE TOCCOA RECORD      Local municipalities adorning city streets with Christmas lights is a long and colorful tradition in Toccoa-Stephens County.      As far back as 1948 – that’s 75 years ago – the City of Toccoa was the centerpiece of Christmas lighting in the community.

Artists' Guild holds Fall Festival show

     The Currahee Artists' Guild held its Fall judged show in conjunction with Toccoa's Fall Festival Oct. 28-29.      The judge for the show was Mandy Ferguson. Ferguson has a bachelor of fine arts from Converse University and earned her masters from Clemson University.

      The use of heroin, fentanyl, and other opioids has increased in Stephens County by almost twice of what it was three years ago.      That’s the report from the Mountain Judicial Circuit (MJC) in a letter to the Stephens County government relating to drug court.

Library hires new manager

    Justin Haynes started Monday at his new job as manager of the Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library.      It’s his third gig managing a library in the northeast Georgia area.     The first two were for the public library in Cornelia and after that, the public library in Helen.

2023 Curraheee Military Weekend

     Currahee Military Weekend will kick off with a repeat showing of the film, The Girl Who Wore Freedom on Thursday, Oct. 5.      Three shows are planned – at 10 a.m. for home school students, private  and public  schools and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. for the general public. Cost is $10 per ticket.
