The Indian boys basketball team compete tonight for region championship.

If the Stephens County  can defeat Monroe Area tonight in the finals of the Region 8-AAA basketball tournament, it will be the first time in 45 years an Indian boys basketball team will be region champs. Indian teams played for region championships in 2017, 1992 and 1979, but lost their title bids.

Johnson donates World War II rifle

    William Johnson of Chadbourne, N.C., didn’t particularly want to give up his restored M-1 Garand rifle.     But he decided it was a good fit for the Currahee Military Museum in Toccoa so others could benefit from viewing it.

     Milkshake Mayfield has circled the world gracing national and international stages, but on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m., he returns to his hometown to take the stage at the historic Ritz Theatre for a Night at the Ritz performance.

Firemen battle pair of fires

     The Toccoa Fire Department and volunteer fire units battled a pair of residential fires in recent weeks.      The first came just after 4 a.m. on Tuesdsay, Jan. 17 when firefighters from Toccoa and Carnes Creek were alerted to a house on fire at the corner of Pond and Elberton streets.

NGTC names Burton for leadership award

     Teresa Burton of Cleveland was named North Georgia Technical College’s 2023 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner at a recent Habersham Rotary meeting.     She was nominated for the honor by her instructor, Alex Bladowski.

County commissioners meet for retreat

   Stephens County commissioners are scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. tomorrow (Jan. 27) at the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport to discuss a wide range of topics.

BY REBECCA GRAPEVINE STAFF REPORTER CAPITOL BEAT NEWS SERVICE      ATLANTA – A record number of Georgians – over 846,000 – signed up for health insurance for 2023 under the Affordable Care Act during the latest open enrollment period, which ended on Sunday.
Tickets for the event are $70 per person or $640 for a reserved table for eight or $800 for a reserved table of 10.

TSO concert Feb. 11

    The Glitter & Glam Gala will be held Saturday, Feb.11 at the Currahee Campus of North Georgia Technical College beginning at 6 p.m. for a social hour followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
