PTL recognizes Employee of the Year

     Katie Bennett of Toccoa was named the 2022 PTL Equipment Employee of the Year at the company’s Christmas party on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, held at The Geary Farm.      PTL president, Jonathan Wright and the 2021 Employee of the Year award recipient Jesse Crenshaw, presented the award to Bennett.

     Mario the Maker Magician will make his third appearance at the historic Ritz Theatre on Friday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. for a Night at the Ritz performance.      More than just a performer, Mario is also an inventor who creates his own props.

     The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, has announced that lakes Hartwell, Richard B. Russell and J. Strom Thurmond are no longer in drought operations due to the recent rain events over the Savannah River System Basin.

Meeks re-elected to Soil and Water Conservation District

Voters re-elected district supervisor Lakie Meeks to the Stephens County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), will serve the for another four-year term. Meeks has been a district supervisor since 2013 and will continue representing Stephens County.

Toccoa worker suffers brutal injury in accident

     Zachary Johnson of Toccoa just wanted to earn some extra money for Christmas.      The 40-year-old City of Toccoa employee was working overtime on Friday, Dec. 2, at a city recycling bailer when tragedy occurred.     The machine, he said, crushed both of his feet.

Toccoa promotes small businesses

     Main Street Toccoa is encouraging local shoppers to “shop small” this holiday season.       That’s “small” as in small business. Small Business Saturday will be observed Saturday, Nov. 26 in Toccoa.

Watson featured artist at The Studio

    Gail Watson of Toccoa is the featured artist for the month of November in the Studio located on Doyle Street in downtown.      Watson launched her career as an artist by taking classes from Dianne Mize in Clarkesville.

     Stephens County High School will hold a bonfire pep rally tonight (Thursday, Nov. 3) from 6-8 p.m.      There will be music, games, s’mores and Chik-fil-A sandwiches for $6. There is no admission fee.
