Artists' Guild seeking judges

     The Currahee Artists’ Guild is seeking artists for its annual Spring Judged Show to be held on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Studio in downtown Toccoa.      This event is held in conjunction with the Toast of Toccoa, which brings lots of viewers to the downtown area.

Waters named interim elections supervisor

    The Stephens County Board of Elections conducted a called meeting Thursday, March 10 at the historic courthouse in Toccoa after which an interim elections supervisor was named.

BY SAMANTHA SINCLAIR FRANKLIN COUNTY CITIZEN      LAVONIA — Police Chief Bruce Carlisle honored a hero officer posthumously at the Lavonia City Council meeting Monday night, March 7.    Carlisle presented Lt. Scot Stowe’s family with a resolution commending Stowe that state Rep.

Scouting Values Dinner held on March 3

BY MATTHEW OSBORNE THE NORTHEAST GEORGIAN      Local Scouting leaders celebrated a record amount of $74,290 raised for local youths at the American Values Dinner at Piedmont University on March 3.

Grant sought for Ritz Theater

    The City of Toccoa will seek a grant to help pay for work on the historic Ritz Theatre.      During their Feb. 14 meeting, city commissioners  considered the application for a USDA Rural Business Development Grant for the Ritz addition.
Construction continues on the renovation and expansion of the City of Toccoa’s Eastanollee Creek wastewater treatment facility. The city has just received state funds to undertake expansion and renovation at its Toccoa Creek wastewater facility located on Scenic Drive.

City receives infrastructure money

     Gov. Brian P. Kemp, joined by members of the Water and Sewer Infrastructure Committee and state leaders, today announced more than $422 million in preliminary awards, including $4.3 million for the City of Toccoa.

Howard and Scott complete college application program

      Two students from Toccoa-Stephens County recently completed a two-year college application program.     They are Jaylee Scott, daughter of Tim Scott and Jackie Scott; and Shakira Howard, daughter of Avero Howard and Shika Tukes.

     The Toccoa Symphony Orchestra will hold its winter concert  on Sunday, March 6, at the Grace Alford Performing Arts Center on the campus of Toccoa Falls College.

Sheriff's Office employees of the year

     The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office recently announced its 2021 deputy and jailer of the year.      Sheriff Randy Shirley said that Cpl. Michael Vice is the deputy of the year.      Vice is the handler for sheriff’s office K-9 officer Dexter.       Jailer of the year is Jessica Tucker.
