Christmas tree lighting returns to Paul Anderson Park

     After a two-year hiatus, the Varsity returns to Toccoa, on Thursday, Dec. 2, for the 9th annual Lighting of the Park Christmas Tree event.

South Carolina man arrested on drug charges

     A South Carolina man was arrested last month in Stephens County on charges of intent to distribute heroin and other illegal substances.       Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that on Oct. 22 at around 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office received word of a reckless driver on Big A Road.

     Top teachers at Stephens County schools have been announced with one of them set to become system-wide Teacher of the Year in the coming weeks.     The announcements come after the event was postponed nationally in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currahee Artists’ Guild annul Fall Arts and Crafts Show winners

     The Currahee Artists’ Guild has announced winners of its annul Fall Arts and Crafts Show held in conjunction with the Toccoa Harvest Festival.      Winners were: oil/Acryli, Charlie Huneke, first; Jo Mitchell second; and Lula Lowry, third. Bentley Sabatini received honorable mention.

Harvest Festival returns to Toccoa

     The 44th annual Toccoa Harvest Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 30-31 in downtown Toccoa.      The event will boast more than 125  vendors.      There will be local crafters as well as crafters from nearby communities in northeast Georgia and  middle and south Georgia.

    If law enforcement gives you break with a warning, you’d best stop doing whatever you were warned against.     That’s the message the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office put out in a recent release after the arrest of several individuals in the sale of vaping products.

    Get ready to hear some of the spookiest stories on the river.      The Tugaloo River Water Trail (TRWT) will sponsor a Spooky Story Paddle on Saturday, Oct.23 beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Owl Swamp pull out on Toccoa Creek.
