Toccoa detectives praised for Gholston arrest

BY TOM LAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD       City of Toccoa manager Fredda Wheeler at Monday’s city commission meeting, recognized the recent efforts of the Toccoa Police Department.    “I am proud of all that our police department does under chief Bruce Carlisle,” Wheeler said.

BY TOM LAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD     A multi-million expansion project at the Ritz Theatre inched forward Monday afternoon after a split vote by city commissioners on paying for soil testing to determine if there is underground water problems near the theatre site at the Broad/Doyle intersection.

First responders recognized on 9/11

BY LAURA SHAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD    To recognize the 24th anniversary of Sept. 11, Grace Baptist Church held a luncheon for the first responders in Stephens County.     The church partnered with almost 100 community members and seven other churches to feed the first responders.

Fugitive captured

BY MICHAEL O’HEARNTHE TOCCOA RECORD A fugitive who led Franklin County sheriff’s deputies on a chase Saturday morning was later apprehended by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.

VFW Post 4346 celebrates 80 years

The local Veterans of Foreign Wars [VFW] post in Toccoa is celebrating its 80th anniversary this week.On Monday night, the VFW hall was packed with people playing Bingo throughout the night, and two veterans, Bill King and Jeff Warth, were honored with Quilts of Valor.
