BY MICHAEL O’HEARNTHE TOCCOA RECORD Residents concerned about a potential rock quarry coming to Stephens County may be able to rest easy knowing a rezoning request for any properties in Stephens County will not be presented this year.

BY TOM LAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD   The City of Toccoa will host a Day of Prayer for city attorney John Dickerson on Monday, Oct. 27.    The chapel of Toccoa First Methodist Church on Tugalo Street will be open for the prayer vigil from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
An announcement was made at this week's Stephens County Board of Education meeting that BOE vice chair Travis Dobbs is resigning.

BY J. TODD TRUELOVETHE TOCCOA RECORD     Travis Dobbs, Stephens County Board of Education vice chair and District 2 representative, ended his time with the board Tuesday.   The board unanimously accepted Dobbs’ — who is moving out of District 2 — resignation, acknowledging his time of service.

Drug bust leads to 20 arrests

BY J. TODD TRUELOVETHE TOCCOA RECORD    Twenty suspects were arrested last week on charges reported to stem from a major drug operation in northeast Georgia.   The arrests were made after a joint effort by a dozen law enforcement agencies serving search warrants at six Stephens County residences.

Early voting begins Tuesday

BY MICHAEL O’HEARNTHE TOCCOA RECORD Residents can start voting early on Tuesday to decide whether to renew the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax [SPLOST] as well as candidates to fill two seats on the Town of Martin’s council.
On Tuesday night, the Stephens County Planning Commission recommended tabling a proposed planned use development on nearly 90 acres at the intersection of Memorial Drive and the Toccoa Bypass.

BY J. TODD TRUELOVETHE TOCCOA RECORD     A potential Planned Unit Development (PUD) at the intersection of Memorial Drive and the Toccoa Bypass drew fire Tuesday.   At issue was a request to rezone the property from agricultural residential to PUD.
