“It’s about giving back to the community.” For Tina and David Duffey, operating the Red Oak Lavender Farm is a way to interact with the community and to stay active postretirement. Originally from Atlanta, Tina has always preferred the outdoors and living in the country.

Grace Fellowship leads 2019 Operation Christmas Child

    Grace Fellowship, located on Alewine Drive in Toccoa, led the local church response to the 2019 Operation Christmas Child campaign.     Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse which sends shoeboxes stuffed with gift items to children in more than 130 countries worldwide.

    Traveler’s Rest Historic Site will hold the first of two Christmas at the Inn events Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.     Christmas at the Inn will also be held Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

   Gov. Brian Kemp went against President Trump’s recommendation Wednesday when he selected businesswoman Kelly Loeffler over U.S. Rep. Doug Collins (R-Gainesville) to fill the U.S. Senate seat left by the retiring Johnny Isakson.

Earlier this month and in the thick of deer season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that deer “can transmit certain strains of tuberculosis to hunters.”  The danger comes during the field-dressing process.
