Early detection is vital, cancer survivor says

Just because you can’t see or feel something, doesn’t mean it’s not there and Elizabeth Harper learned this first-hand when she was diagnosed with breast cancer last December at age 59. “When they found my cancer, it was very small and in the beginning stages,” Harper said.

MOUNTAIN TRAVELER: Pieces of the past

Pottery can tell a story, and the Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia is home to many tales. Located on the campus of the Sautee Nacoochee Center (SNC), the museum was built in 2006, and was a gift to the community from Kay and Dean Swanson, said Patrick Brennan, SNC executive director.

Mountain Judicial Circuit receives Task Force award

    The Georgia Commission on Family Violence (GCFV) presented its Task Force of the Year Award to the Mountain Judicial Circuit Family Violence Task Force at the 25th Annual Family Violence Conference.     The curcuit’s task force encompasses, Stephens, Habersham and Rabun counties.

State Senate study committee dicusses reducing business costs

    State Sen. John Wilkinson of Toccoa on Thursday, Aug. 29, hosted the first meeting of the state Senate study committee on reducing Georgia’s cost of doing business.     Wilkinson serves as chairman of the 15-person committee. The first meeting was held in Atlanta.

Eight accidents in county over Labor Day weekend

    Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported there were nine traffic fatalities across the state during the recent Labor Day holiday weekend.     Eight of those traffic deaths are being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
