BY LAUREL HEWELL THE TOCCOA RECORD      Toccoa-Stephens County better get ready for a night of fun and music because the Power of Love tribute band is coming to town on Saturday, May 20 at the historic Ritz Theatre.

     On Saturday, April 22, the Toccoa Police Department will hold a car seat check and installation at the Curtis Scott Substation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.      The substation is located at 589 S. Pond St.

Acree guard cat dies at age 25

BY LAURA HEWELL THE TOCCOA RECORD     Ben the cat, a communitywide celebrity whose day and night job was being a guard at Acree Oil Company on Currahee Street, died recently.     He was 25-years old and a well-loved member of the Acree Oil family, his co-workers said.

      Toccoa Falls College will host a junior recital for Samantha Greene and Breana Haynes, two juniors in the Music Education program who are also local residents.       This will be held at First Baptist Church of Toccoa at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 13. The church is located at 475 E. Tugalo St.

     Toccoa First United Methodist will host a number of Holy Week worship services April 3-7.       At noon each weekday (Monday through Friday) the church will sponsor a lunch hour service from noon to 1 p.m. in its Cheek Hall featuring a message from a local pastor.

Sheriff drug trafficking takedown

     Sheriff Randy Shirley this week announced the takedown of a drug trafficking organization earlier this month.      Shirley said that on Friday, March 3, the Sheriff’s Traffic Interdiction Narcotics and Gangs unit (STING) obtained a search warrant for a Cheek Smith Road address.
