Morrow catches top spot

    Boater Troy Morrow of Eastanollee won the Phoenix Bass Fishing League presented by T-H Marine at Lake Keowee presented by Googan Baits in Seneca, S.C. last weekend.     Morrow earned $7,011 for his victory at the event, which was hosted by Visit Oconee.

Perry joins The Toccoa Record

    Lisa Perry has joined the staff of The Toccoa Record as a marketing specialist.     A native of Tybee Island, Ga., Perry has been a Toccoa-Stephens County resident since the age of 16.

SCHS band member named to district honor band

    A member of the Stephens County High School band has been named to the Georgia District 14  Honor Band.     Dawson Jordan, alto saxophone, was chosen for the honor band based on scoring from district audtions held virtually last month.

Competition dance wins

On Saturday, Jan. 23, the Stephens County High School Indianettes competition dance team competed at the Heritage 5-Star Invitational in Ringgold.   The team placed first out of four teams in high kick and brought home third place out of five teams in varsity pom.

New pastor at Grace Baptist

    Grace Baptist Church has called the Rev. Scott Alexander as its new pastor.     Alexander and his wife, Christy, both graduated from Stephens County High School and have been married for almost 28 years.     They have four children, two married and two in college, and four grandchildren.

Sheriff's Office names deputy and jailer of the year

    The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office recent presented a pair of awards to deputies.     Daniel Dixon was named deputy of the year by his peers and Dondi Nelson was named jailer of the year.

Ministry donates medical supplies to Haiti hospital

    An area ministry last week prepared to ship a second container of medical supplies to a newly-opened hospital in Haiti.     Love Him Love Them volunteers helped load the shipping container on Saturday, Jan. 23 in Lavonia.     Included in the shipment were 13 much-needed hospital beds.

Georgia Economic Development recognizes Osborne

    Osborne Wood Products, Inc. of Toccoa was named by the Georgia Department of Economic Development for entering new international markets in 2019     Thirty-one other Georgia companies were also recognized.

County seeks new election superintendent

    Stephens County's chief voter registrar and election superintendent has resigned.     The Stephens County Board of Commissioners held a called closed session meeting Tuesday, Jan. 19, and afterward announced the resignation of former chief voter registrar Eureka Gober.
