    The fourth annual Toast of Toccoa will be held Saturday, May 8, from noon to 6 p.m. in downtown Toccoa.     Artists’ booths, area wineries, and food vendors will once again line Doyle Street from Hill Street to Sage Street.

Martin has open house for new town hall

    The Town of Martin unveiled its new city hall to the public Sunday afternoon.     Town operations have moved into the newly-renovated space that once was occupied by Goodwin and Thomas Furniture store and the Bank of Martin among other businesses.
The first event of the day will be to welcome the Amtrak Crescent Line at 6:15 a.m. at the historic train depot (pictured).

    The railroad has been an important part of the history of Toccoa and to honor this history, the City of Toccoa will celebrate Toccoa Train Day on Saturday, May 1.     The first event of the day will be to welcome the Amtrak Crescent Line at 6:15 a.m. at the historic train depot.

Lady Indians tennis team excels

    The Stephens County Lady Indian tennis team coasted into the state’s Sweet 16 after defeating Sandy Creek 5-0 in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs here Monday.     The Lady Indians are Sweet 16 bound for the first time since at least 2006, according to SCHS head coach Debby Williams.

Sheriff's Office arrests two on drug distribution charges

    The Stephens County Sheriff's Office reported Tuesday that two Toccoa residents were arrested in early April on drug charges.     Sheriff Randy Shirley said the arrests brought to a close an investigation that began after complaints about  a man selling drugs at several local motels.

County considers animal control ordinance

    An amendment to an ordinance governing animal control is being considered by county commissioners.     On Tuesday, commissioners held the first public hearing on the ordinance.     The amendment adds a line to the ordinance regarding tying an animal to a post or some other item on a property.
