Lady Indians tennis team excels

    The Stephens County Lady Indian tennis team coasted into the state’s Sweet 16 after defeating Sandy Creek 5-0 in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs here Monday.     The Lady Indians are Sweet 16 bound for the first time since at least 2006, according to SCHS head coach Debby Williams.

Sheriff's Office arrests two on drug distribution charges

    The Stephens County Sheriff's Office reported Tuesday that two Toccoa residents were arrested in early April on drug charges.     Sheriff Randy Shirley said the arrests brought to a close an investigation that began after complaints about  a man selling drugs at several local motels.

    Love Him Love Them Ministry will hold a volunteer extravanganza Saturday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.     The event will be held at 111 Fieldcrest Drive – the Family Life Center of The Pointe Church.

County considers animal control ordinance

    An amendment to an ordinance governing animal control is being considered by county commissioners.     On Tuesday, commissioners held the first public hearing on the ordinance.     The amendment adds a line to the ordinance regarding tying an animal to a post or some other item on a property.

    Main Street Toccoa, in conjunction with the businesses of downtown Toccoa, will host a Sip-n-Stroll Friday, April 16, from 4-7 p.m.     Following the Sip-n-Stroll, a free concert by the Toccoa Falls College Jazz Ensemble and Toccoa Jazz will take place at the historic Ritz Theatre.

Extension Service offers seminars

    The Stephens County Extension will conduct a pair of seminars in the coming weeks.     The first It’s Tomato Time on Friday, April 16, at the Stephens County Extension Office (50 Eastanollee Livestock Road) in  Eastanollee from 9-11 a.m.

String of thefts from automobiles

    Stephens County sheriff’s deputies and investigators recently arrested two men on charges related to a string of thefts from automobiles.     Sheriff Randy Shirley said deputies responded on Tuesday, March 23 to multiple reports that someone had entered vehicles in the area of Rock Creek Road.

Volunteer fire adds recovery unit

    Stephens County and Toccoa firefighters have a new unit to assist them in their battles against blazes thanks to Rabun County.     It's a 2017 Freightliner Rabun sold to Stephens County for $5,000.
