The early in-person voting period for Georgia's two U.S. Senate seats begins Monday, Dec. 14.      Registered voters can submit a ballot in-person at the historic courthouse in downtown Toccoa from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.      The courthouse voting place will be closed Dec.

Paul Anderson Memorial Park is seeking the public’s assistance in keeping the park open.      Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the park did not hold its annual Christmas in the Park celebration traditionally held the first Thursday in December.

    The registration deadline to be eligible to cast a ballot in the runoffs for Georgia's two U.S. Senate seats is fast approaching.     Georgia and Stephens County residents must be registered by 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7 to cast a ballot in the races that pit incumbent Republican Sen.

Animal Shelter Recloses Temporarily

Toccoa-Stephens County Animal Shelter Director Jeff Roberts reported Thursday, Dec. 3, morning that the animal shelter is temporarily closed after a second employee had tested positive for COVID-19.

Toccoa schedules Christmas Fest

    Established in 2012, the Toccoa Christmas Fest has become a popular event to help start the Christmas season in northeast Georgia.     This year’s event in downtown Toccoa will be held on Friday, Dec. 4, from 6-9 p.m.     Christmas Fest is sponsored and organized by Toccoa Main Street.

Intergovernmental agreement targets animal control.

    The city and county governments are working toward an intergovernmental agreement to hire an animal control officer.     The matter was to be discussed by both governments in meetings earlier this week but was set aside to allow the city attorney time to review the agreement.

Tropical Storm Zeta strikes Stephens County

Winds raged through Toccoa and Northeast Georgia Wednesday night; downing trees, damaging property, and knocking out power throughout the region. As of 10 a.m.Thursday morning, Georgia Power reported that they were working to restore power to some 600,000 customers.
