NGTC announces photography winners

    North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) has announced the winners of the recent photography contest entitled The Future, Now.      More than 80 entries from across the region were received from high school and college students.     The first place winner is Anna Brown of Danielsville.

    North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) received the 2020 Innovation Award from the Community Colleges of Appalachia (CCA) during a virtual awards presentation on May 20.

    Raelyn Sanders, a member of the Stephens County High School Class of 2020, has been named a National Merit Scholarship winner.     She is one of only 2,500 students nationwide named as National Merit Scholarship winners.

Brunt of storm to miss Toccoa

Forecasts from the National Weather Service (NWS) show that much of anticipated flooding rains will pass by Toccoa and Stephens County. NWS forecasts indicate that Stephens County will receive some 1.69 inches of rainfall from 2 a.m. on May 19 to 8 p.m. on May 21.

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts thunderstorms in northeast Georgia through Thursday, May 21, with possibilities of flooding.

Early primary voting begins Monday

    The early voting period for the June 9 primary races will begin Monday, May 18.     Stephens County Chief Registrar Eureka Gober said voting machines are ready to go for in-person voting upstairs in the historic courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

Nurse speaks about experience in healthcare

    A former Toccoan and a graduate of Stephens County High School has been working on the  front lines of the war on the coronavirus.     Allyson Lawrence Carter lives in the Cornelia area and works in the  COVID-19 intensive care unit at Northeast Georgia Hospital in Gainesville.
