MS Rebels football season begins Aug. 6

BY LAURA SHAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD    The Stephens County Middle School Rebels start their 2025 football season on Aug. 6 with a scrimmage against Jefferson.   The team has been practicing all summer to get ready for their season.
The Toccoa Senior League team traveled to Florida this weekend and fell in two games on July 18 and July 20. The team is made up of Bentley Dunson, Landry Williams, Ryan King, Jasper Davenport, Dylan Elrod, Konner Brown, Thompson Bullard, Caden Hamilton, Isiah Patterson, Trey Pressley, Carmelo Renfroe, Seth Stonecypher, and Wyatt Rudeseal. The team’s manager is Ben Dunson, and the coaches are Matt King, Josh Davenport, and Bradley Elrod. Submitted photo

Little League letdown

BY LAURA SHAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD    Toccoa Little League Senior League All-Stars competed in the Southeast Region tournament over the weekend against the West Pasco, Florida, team and the team from Virginia. TLL fell in the opening game on July 18, 7-0 against the Florida team.
The Stephens County High School football team held its Future Indians camp on Monday night, which teaches first through fifth grade students the fundamentals of playing football. Assistant coach David Poffenberger told The Record the event had 25 students participate and said the event is a great way to do community outreach. The camp also gave the students the opportunity to meet the high school football players and run drills alongside them. Photo by Michael O'Hearn

LITTLE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

BY LAURA SHAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD    The Toccoa Little League Senior team won the State championship against Vine Ingle after two games. Vine Ingle won the first game they played, 14-10, on July 9, sending the teams into a winner-takes-all game on July 10, where Toccoa won 7-2.

Toccoa Little League advances to state

BY LAURA SHAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD     The Toccoa Little League Senior League tournament took place over the weekend, and the Toccoa team got off to a great start, winning their first game in the tournament against Athens 19-1.

BY LAURA SHAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD    Toccoa Little League will be hosting the Senior League State Tournament starting on Saturday at Doyle Street Park.    The tournament will feature teams from Toccoa, Athens, Hart, Vine Ingle, and East Athens.

Baseballers named to All-State list

BY LAURA SHAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD     On Friday, June 27, the Georgia Dugout Club announced the 2025 Post Season All-State teams, and Stephens County had three athletes named to the list.
The Indians high school football team is hard at work finishing off the month of June practices this week before enjoying an off week next week. The Indians will resume practice on July 7. Indians get first win during Thanksgiving Week Tournament

The Indians picked up their first win of the season during a tournament in Winder-Barrow against the Lamar County Trojans. They also played against Winder-Barrow in the tournament where they fell to the Bulldogs.    The game against the Trojans was game two of the tournament.
