Baseball kicks off 2026 season

The Stephens County Indians won two of three games payed last week to christen the 2026 baseball season.   The Indians fell 7-2 at Jefferson in the season opener played Monday, Feb. 9, bounced back to defeat the Dragons 8-3 here Wednesday, Dec.

Runners set records on opening day

BY TOM LAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD    It was a record-setting performance on the opening day of track season for one Stephens County Indian track athlete.    Boys and girls track teams competed in the Chestatee Time Trials held Thursday, Feb. 12 at Chestatee High School in Gainesville.

Tennis split by Prince Avenue, East Jackson

BY TOM LAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD   The Stephens County Indian tennis teams split a pair of Region 8-AA matches last week.   On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the Indian boys and Lady Indian girls each lost to perennial tennis powerhouse Prince Avenue Christian School and on Thursday, Feb. 12 defeated East Jackson.

Basketball caps seasons with losses

BY TOM LAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD   Stephens County basketball teams lost the final two games of the regular season last week.  The Lady Indians lost 63-33 here to Hart County on Tuesday, Feb. 10 and fell 61-48 to Prince Avenue there on Friday.

Two wrestlers compete at state

Spring sports are around the corner

BY TOM LAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD   The calendar indicates it’s still the bleak mid-winter, but the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) says spring sports is just around the corner.   That means multiple Stephens County Indian teams are rushing to prepare for season openers next week.
The eighth grade girls basketball team celebrates winning the conference championship after winning the season-ending tournament. Team members are (not in order) Rylee Grafton, Ella Fletcher, Jadaya Montgomery, Kiya Morgan, Emma John Crunkleton, McKennuh Merritt, Legacie Johnson, Brooke Wiley and Raquel Gunter. Head coach was Amanda Powell assisted by Delicia Fortson.

Stephens basketball falls to Franklin Co.

BY TOM LAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD   Franklin County swept a pair of Region 8-AA basketball games from Stephens County at Currahee Arena last Friday night.   The Lady Lions downed the Lady Indians 75-49 as three Franklin County players contributed double-digit scoring to the victory.
