Stephens County football ends season 1-9 after St. Pius loss at the Reservation

The Stephens County football season ended here last Friday night with an extension of an almost season-long Indian losing streak. St. Pius extended the Indians’ losing streak to nine games when they defeated the Tribe 42-21 at The Reservation finishing the Indian season with a 1-9 mark.

For the most part, the 2019-2020 Stephens County Lady Indians basketball team is locked and reloaded for the new season that starts Saturday at 3 p.m. in Currahee Arena. Virtually every player from last year’s team is back with the exception of Kaniyha Laboon and Mary Alice Knight.

The Stephens County Indian football team came close to snapping a seven-game losing streak when they faced Region 8-AAAA foe Madison County last Friday in Danielsville. But close wasn’t good enough.

Stephens County High School has been relcassified

Stephens County High School, a long-time resident of Region 8-AAA, will return to its roots in 2020 following reclassification by he Georgia High School Athletic Association (GHSA). The GHSA released reclassification for 2020-2022 on Tuesday.

The Stephens County junior varsity football team ground out a tight, 28-21 victory over White County in a game played at The Reservation Thursday, Oct. 17. “This was just a backyard brawl,” Indian coach Greg McCall said. “There were two JV football teams battling.
