Stephens County tennis open with wins over Lumpkin County

In the battle of Indians, it was the Stephens County Indians who got the best of the Lumpkin County Indians in tennis here last Thursday.       SCHS boys’ and girls’ tennis teams fashioned victories as the Indian boys triumphed 3-2 and the Lady Indians won by a 4-1 margin.

Stephens County Girls' Basketball bows out of the first round of the playoffs

 The playoff run was short lived for the Stephens County Lady Indians basketball team.       The Lady Indians qualified for the state tournament for the first time since 2014, but were eliminated 65-56 by Gilmer County in a first round game played last Friday in Ellijay.

Stephens County wins first game of the season in the Battle of Currahee Mountain

Cole Snyder’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning, gave the Stephens County Indians their first baseball victory of the season here last Friday.      The Indians downed Habersham Central 5-4 at The Reservation to start the year 1-0.

High kicking Indianettes win state title

The Stephens County High School Indianettes dance team competed in the 2020 GHSA State Dance Invitational on Feb. 15 at Columbus State University. The Indianettes won the AAA/AAAA High Kick State Championship. They were undefeated in high kick this competition season.

Stephens County's Girls' Basketball head to playoffs as three seed

  The Stephens County Lady Indians will play Friday at 7 p.m. at Gilmer County in the first round of the state tournament.      That game comes courtesy of being the No. 3 seed from Region 8-AAAA. Gilmer is the No. 2 seed from Region 6-AAAA having lost to Northwest Whitfield in the region finals.

Daniel Mayfield's deep roots in Stephens County

After 12 years of coaching and teaching at Stephens County High School, Daniel Mayfield a 1978 SCHS graduate made a difficult decision last summer.      Mayfield, who had been an assistant coach for the SCHS boys’ basketball team for the last dozen years decided to leave the program and SCHS.

Stephens County Boy's Basketball season comes to an end in region tourney

  The Stephens County High School boys’ basketball season came to an end last week with a loss in the first round of the Region 8-AAAA tournament.      The Indians’ season was cut short when Oconee County defeated the Tribe 61-50 in the Region 8-AAAA play-in game played at St. Pius near Atlanta.

Stephens County baseball continues to have high standards for upcoming season

Last season the Stephens County baseball team had a three senior pitching staff. Unfortunately for the Indians seniors can’t play forever. Fortunately for SCHS they can rely on Josh Henshaw and Jordan Page to carry the pitching load this season.

Stephens County seventh grade basketball wins NEGIA championship over Elbert

The Stephens County seventh grade boy’s basketball team are the champions. The Rebels ended their season with a championship when they defeated Elbert County 51-48 to claim the Northeast Georgia Interscholastic Athletic Association crown in Comer.

Stephens County Girls' Basketball reach 20 wins and No. 1 seed spot in region tourney

Last week the Stephens County girls’ basketball team picked up two monumental wins. They defeated Oconee County to lock up the No. 1 seed to go into the Region 8-AAAA tournament. Also they picked up a senior night victory over North Oconee to reach 20 wins for the first time in 10 years.
