Shelter waives adoption fees for adult dogs

     For the first time in its more than 12-year history, the Toccoa-Stephens County Animal Shelter has waived the $100 adoption fee for adult dogs.      The reason for the waiver is the result of too many dogs.

Despite the granite plaque at the Georgia Guidestones advertising a time capsule was allegedly buried at the site, there was no evidence of any buried history when digging occurred Friday morning.

Patrotic Pops at Lake Toccoa Sunday

     The Toccoa Symphony Orchestra will perform its Patriotic Pops Concert on Sunday, June 26, at Lake Toccoa.       The gate will open at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.     The concert will feature the full-sized orchestra performing uplifting and inspiring patriotic music.

      Stephens County followed the rest of Georgia in most statewide primary races Tuesday.    Stephens voters favored incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp by 63.31 percent and 2,666 votes in the Republican primary.

The Stephens County Board of Elections meets tonight at 5:30 at the historic courthouse in Toccoa. Early voting also continues at the same location from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekday and this coming Saturday, May 7, and the following one, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

     The fifth annual Toast of Toccoa will be held Saturday, April 30, from noon to 6 p.m. in downtown Toccoa.      Artists’ booths, area wineries, classic cars and food vendors will once again line Doyle Street from Hill Street to Alexander Street.
The Crone Foundation, formed in honor of Air Force veteran Robert F. Crone Jr., donated $25,000 for a new JROTC obstacle course at Stephens County High School.      The Stephens County High School JROTC program celebrated the opening and dedication of a new obstacle course on Thursday, April 14.      The course will be used by JROTC students to train for competitions.
