Coroner’s office getting new building

BY J. TODD TRUELOVETHE TOCCOA RECORD    The Stephens County Coroner’s Office will be operating out of a new structure at the entrance of the old landfill off of Highway 145.   That’s in the area of the former Lanier Clothes facility and behind the old animal shelter.
A fire broke out Friday night, March 20, at a warehouse building on the water treatment plant campus in Toccoa. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to City Manager Fredda Wheeler.

BY MICHAEL O’HEARNTHE TOCCOA RECORDA fire broke out on March 20 at the Toccoa Water Treatment Plant on Falls Road.The blaze began at a metal building at the site that water distribution works out of at approximately 6 p.m. that evening.

City approves Ritz Theatre inspector

BY TOM LAWTHE TOCCOA RECORD   The City of Toccoa last Thursday approved an independent outside vendor to undertake inspections of work on the addition to the historic Ritz Theatre.   An independent inspector was included in the city-construction company contract covering the Ritz work.

BY MICHAEL O’HEARNTHE TOCCOA RECORD Friends, family members, and work colleagues gathered last week to celebrate a statewide achievement by a Toccoa librarian.
It was Opening Day for the Toccoa Little League on Saturday, March 14. The day kicked off with a parade on Doyle Street. The Riverdogs softball team led the rest of the Toccoa Little League baseball and softball teams down Doyle Street Saturday morning during opening day events.

On Tuesday night, March 17, the Stephens County Board of Education honored the high school’s two STAR students and teachers.The STAR students are Logan Shirley and Landon Powell, while the STAR teachers are Kasey Ivey and Lynne Fisher. Shirley and Powell got the same SAT score. They were joined by, from left to right, Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President Julie Paysen, superintendent Connie Franklin, and Board of Education chair Tripp Arrowood.

TODD TRUELOVETHE TOCCOA RECORD    As of yesterday, Wednesday, March 18, there are 100 work days left until the reopening of Eastanollee Elementary School.   That’s what deputy school superintendent John Stith told the board of education during it’s regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 17.

Christian Learning Center relocating this summer
