American Heritage celebrates 35 years

     Marshall Jordan is a small town businessman with a big dream to offer quality service and products to his community.     With humble roots in northeast Georgia, Jordan is seen by many as a symbol of hard work, dedication and perseverance.

BOE recognizes nutrition/special education accomplishments

    A prayer, the pledge, and the sound of a snare drum started the Stephens County Board of Education's meeting Tuesday.     Stephens County High School band director Derrick Nolen marched the band’s drummers to the meeting to perform.

    Traveler’s Rest State Historic Site will hold Pioneer Day on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.     Visitors will learn the skills of the early settlers and hear the stories of times past from living historians.

    Author and speaker Thomas Leon Watson, a former resident of Toccoa, will share his life story during a talk at the Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m.     The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

By: Billy Hawkins, a volunteer host and clerk at Traveler’s Rest State Historic Site. It has been my pleasant duty for the last few months to be a kind of host and clerk at the Traveler's Rest state historic site located just this side of the South Carolina line.

Mountain Judicial Circuit receives Task Force award

    The Georgia Commission on Family Violence (GCFV) presented its Task Force of the Year Award to the Mountain Judicial Circuit Family Violence Task Force at the 25th Annual Family Violence Conference.     The curcuit’s task force encompasses, Stephens, Habersham and Rabun counties.
