School is out for the Christmas break, but the learning does not stop for the Stephens County eighth grade girls’ basketball team. Lady Rebel head coach Jeremy Stowe took the Banks County Christmas tournament as a learning experience for his team last week in Homer.

The Stephens County eighth grade boys’ basketball team won two games in the Banks County Christmas tournament last week in Homer. The Rebels started off the tournament with a win against Commerce 57-43 and ended it with another win against Banks County 39-31 in the two play in games.

The Stephens County Indians crafted their first win of the basketball season in thrilling fashion last week in Elberton. The Indians fought and clawed their way to a 68-67 triumph over Elbert County at The Inferno on Tuesday, Dec. 14.

The losing streak continues to plague the Stephens County Girls’ basketball team. The Lady Indians’ losing streak grew to nine after falling to Rabun County 77-37 last Friday at the Currahee Arena. “Well we got better,” SCHS head coach Laura Baker said.

 The Stephens County Middle school seventh grade girls basketball team had a competitive game going against Franklin County here last Thursday.     However, the visitors deployed  an effective full court press down the stretch and the Lady Cubs ended up putting the Lady Rebels away 30-15.

Stephens County wrestling off to a 2-0 start to open the season

  The Stephens County Indian wrestling has raced to a 2-0 start this season.       The Indians won their first match of the 2021-2022 season by defeating White County and triumphed in their most recent match over Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School 66-16 on Wednesday, Dec 1 in Toccoa.

Stephens County Girls' Basketball outmatched by No. 2 Jefferson Girls' basketball

  The Stephens County  Lady Indians basketball team was no match for No. 2-ranked Jefferson here on Tuesday, Nov. 30.      The Class AAAA Lady Dragons bested the Lady Indians 76-25 last week at Currahee Arena.
