Penalty kick dooms Stephens County against Lumpkin County in close 1-0 game

A second half penalty kick lifted Lumpkin County past the Stephens County Indians 1-0 in Dahlonega last Thursday.      It was a deadlocked match for the majority of the game until Lumpkin’s late penalty kick snapped the scoreless tie.

After solidifying their spot in the state playoffs, the Stephens County Lady Indian soccer team played a non-region match against Lumpkin County last Thursday in Dahlonega.       The match was considered as a tune-up match before the Lady Indians head into post-season play.

The Stephens County tennis teams met East Jackson for the second time this season. Just like in their first meeting between the two the result was the same after the second meeting. It resulted in both SCHS tennis teams defeating East Jackson.

The Stephens County baseball team dropped their first two Region 8-AAA games of the season. Franklin County was the team that handed the Indians their first and second region loss of the season last week.

Stephens County baseball win five in a row

  The Stephens County Indian baseball team stretched its current winning streak to five games Friday with a 6-0 conquest of East Hall here Friday.     The game played on Friday was a substitute game played in place of a rainout with Johnson of Gainesville earlier in the week.

   Two second half goals were the difference in last week’s soccer deadlock between host Stephens County and visiting East Jackson.      East Jackson scored a pair of second half goals to win 2-0 and deliver the first region loss of the season to the Indians last Friday.

     Stephens County High School tennis teams rolled to a pair of Region 8-AAA victories last week.       The SCHS teams earned another region win under their belt when the SCHS boys defeated Monroe Area 4-1 and the Lady Indians blanked the Lady Purple Hurricanes 5-0 last Thursday in Toccoa.

  The late push was not enough for the Stephens County Lady Indians soccer team as they absorbed a 2-1 defeat here last week.      East Jackson gave the Lady Indians their first Region 8-AAA loss.        “That was tough,” SCHS head coach Erin Fleming said.
