Need a team that can produce must-win victories on the last day of the regular season? Try the Stephens County Indian baseball squad. For the second year in a row, the Indians had to sweep a doubleheader from Monroe Area on the last day of the regular season to earn a spot in the state playoffs.

Stephens County Girls' tennis beats Sonoraville in the first round of the playoffs

The Stephens County Girls’ tennis team made it to the second round of the playoffs for the second year in the row. SCHS advanced out of the first round when they defeated Sonoraville 3-0 on Monday in Toccoa. The first-round win gives them a Sweet 16 date with Crisp County on the road.

Stephens County tennis teams Region 8-AAA runners-up

Both Stephens County girls’ and boys’ tennis teams finished the Region 8-AAA tournament as region runners-up. Both teams took a region runner-up finish last week at Oconee County in Watkinsville.

A late comeback from Hart County handed Stephens County a 4-3 Region 8-AAA loss after Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader in Toccoa. The Indians held a 3-0 lead going into the sixth inning and ended up on the wrong side of a 4-3 final after an extra inning.

The Stephens County Indians rescued the brooms from storage last week as they swept three region games from East Jackson.      The Indians took Game 1 on the road defeating the Eagles 13-2 in Commerce.

Penalty kick dooms Stephens County against Lumpkin County in close 1-0 game

A second half penalty kick lifted Lumpkin County past the Stephens County Indians 1-0 in Dahlonega last Thursday.      It was a deadlocked match for the majority of the game until Lumpkin’s late penalty kick snapped the scoreless tie.
