Stephens County Indian pitcher Ayden Gamron found a place where he can continue his baseball career.       Garmon picked Emmanuel College in just-down-the-road Franklin Springs for where he wants to compete at the next level.

Stephens County track and field sending five to state championship meet

The Stephens County track and field team is sending five members to the state championships this weekend in Carrollton. The five Indian members that are state bound include Cam Lacy, Bobby Fessler, Aiden Butts, Corey Richie and Braden Griffin.

Three Stephens County football players sign with University of Pikeville

Three Stephens County Indian football players will venture off into their college football careers together.       Walker Thomason, Vadole Fleming and Bryson Trimier signed to play football together at the University of Pikeville, a school with an enrollment of some 2,400 in Pikeville, Ky.

Stephens County baseball playoff run ends in Sweet 16 against Burke County

  The Stephens County Indians baseball team forced a decisive, winner-take-all third game in a second round state playoff series against Burke County there last week.      The Indians reached that decisive game on the strength of a no-hitter hurled by southpaw Cruz Mullinix in Game 2 of the series.

Stephens County Katie Grace Randall headed to state championships

The Stephens County golf team competed last week in Area golf tournament. The Tribe is sending SCHS Senior Katie Grace Randall to the state championships. Randall qualified as an individual qualifier with a score of 86 in the Area match. The SCHS boys team finished ninth out of 15 schools.

Stephens County Cam Lacy takes Region 8-AAA crown in long jump

 For the third season in a row, the Stephens County Indians track and field team sports a region champion.        This year’s new region champion for the team is Cam Lacy. Last week Lacy won the Region 8-AAA long jump championship in competition at East Jackson HIgh School in Commerce.

Tennis tribe ends season in Elite 8 to powerhouse Westminster School

 A history-making postseason run in the state tennis playoffs ended in the Elite Eight quarterfinal round for both Stephens County teams last week.    The eliminations came courtesy of perennial tennis powerhouse The Westminster School.

Stephens County sweeps No. 1 seed Region 6-AAA champion Rockmart in first round

The Stephens County baseball team advanced to the Sweet 16 after a first-round playoff sweep of No. 1 seed Rockmart winning Game 1 7-3 and Game 2 5-0 last Friday on the road.

Stephens County Girls' soccer season ends is Penalty Kicks in Sweet 16 round

The Stephens County Lady Indian soccer team advanced to the second round of the state before being eliminated. The Lady Indians rolled to a 5-0 whitewash of Ringgold in a first round game played there.

Stephens County Boys' tennis wins thriller in first round playoff match over Murray County

 The Stephens County High School boys tennis team won its first state playoff match since 2005 when they defeated Murray County 3-1 last week at The Reservation.        Ending a 17-year state victory drought was a special moment for the Tribe after the intense first round playoff match.
