County approves hotel plans

    Condominiums and a hotel are planned for construction at the Currahee Club.     The Stephens County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, Nov. 26 approved variance and rezoning requests for the additions to the club.

Christmas events in Toccoa

     The lighting of the giant Toccoa-Stephens County Christmas tree on the lawn of the historic courthouse will kick off the annual Toccoa Christmas Fest Friday night.     The tree lighting will begin at 6 p.m. and include a performance of the Toccoa Jazz ensemble.

The judges picked Arlene Dodd's essay as the "best of the best".  All the cadets received prize money from the Lions club.

    The Toccoa Lions Club recently honored winners in its ninth annual patriotic essay contest held among JROTC students at Stephens County High School.     This is the seventh year that senior Army instructor Lt. Col.

    North Georgia Technical College (NGTC)  recently announced the top four students nominated to become the college’s 2020 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) recipient.

    George Moore a senior at Stephens County High School, was recently named as one of the semifinalists for the 2020 Coca Cola Scholarship.     He is the son of Rod and Betsy Moore of Toccoa.

Salvation Army begins Christmas donation drives

    The Toccoa Salvation Army will kick off two of its most familiar Christmas season drives on Friday, Nov. 29.     Iconic red kettles will be placed at Clayton, Cornelia, Cleveland and Eastanollee Walmarts and several stores on Big A Road in Toccoa to collect donations.

    The Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter has announced a Homes for The Holidays program to encourage people to find a place in their home for an animal from the shelter.

Police investigate November check forgeries

    Two suspects are wanted and one man has been arrested in connection with multiple check forgeries in Toccoa.     Police chief Jimmy Mize said the department has been investigating the forgeries since mid-November.
